Welding Flowers
Every year, my hall at MIT celebrates cruftmas. “Cruft” means an object you have found/scavenged (often from one of the many loading docks and MIT labs and departments leave their old instruments and electronics scrap. Cruftmas is our way of celebrating the making culture at MIT, a form of secret Santa where you have to make a gift for a hallmate, without spending any money.
This semester I’ve been spending a lot of time working with metal. Most of it has been using the Fablight we have in the Morningside Academy for Design, and powdercoating etc, but I recently got into more traditional forge techniques, as well as cold working and TIG welding. This project combines all these skills!
