Tutoring

During the COVID lockdown, elementary schools were reducing the size of their science curriculum by half, to accommodate shifts in remote learning. In order to supplement the classes of these children, and to foster a love and appreciation for science, I tutored elementary school kids over lockdown. I created science courses that were tailored to each child’s interests. For example, here is a course for a 3rd grader, who has a passion for life sciences, particularly birds.

Tryout Day!

Science Bowl Coach

I coach science bowl at Diamond Middle School. This includes running practices throughout the school year, and through school vacations, both in person, and virtually when the pandemic started. I also write and grade try out papers, assist in forming teams, write and read questions for practices, and attended regional competitions as a head coach.

Girl Scout Robotics

I ran a program that taught the basics of robotics, using programs such as hour of code and EV3, to elementary-age girl scout troops. This program was created to foster a love for STEM, through hands-on activities, and project-based learning.

Mathcounts Summer Program

I volunteered for the local town summer program, working in the Mathcounts camp, a camp for 6th-8th graders, focusing on the math competition, Mathcounts. This included grading papers, administering tests, explaining new concepts, and presenting solutions, to help struggling students.

Stable Work and Camps

I have volunteered for over 6 years at the stable where I ride. This includes year-round evenings, after school, of feeding horses, cleaning stalls, paddocks and tack, as well as assisting younger less experienced riders. I also have been an instructor at summer camps, teaching the basics of equitation and horsemanship to beginner riders. I now volunteer at Bina Farm, a therapeutic riding center.
