Organic Lamp

This lamp was designed using skills learned during a student collaboration with Nervous Systems.

I helped create the Corollaria branch sculpture currently installed in MIT’s Morningside Academy of Design.

Corollaria Branch was created from laser cut aluminum that was then riveted together.

Process:

My lamp body was designed in blender, and then I generated cell divisions across the surface.

Using the same parametric software, I generated larger “cells” that divide the surface into flat sheets.

These sheets are optimized to be laser cut flat, while retaining programmed curvature.

I consolidated the cell patterns and panel divisions.

The panels were laser cut, then “riveted” together, and I installed lighting fixtures inside.
